What are you doing?
2009
No seriously, what are you doing?
If you’re reading this article (or others I have posted) to educate yourself about how to build your MLM business, thats great but if you’re not taking action afterwards then all you’re really doing is procrastinating. And if you’re reading my latest bit of MLM advice just to convince yourself that you aren’t procrastinating you have a serious mindset issue that you need to resolve and resolve quickly.
Sure education is important but when you’re building an MLM business you need to educate on your time not on your business’ time. By that I mean you need to be working your business at the time when your prospects are most likely to be paying available. This means if you are contacting people by phone you should be doing so late afternoon and early evening. Probably the latter if you still are working a JOB. Even if you are trying to reach out to people via email or online chat or Twitter or some other form of social media, you need to be interacting with them in this same time frame. Save educating yourself for those times when you can’t reach out to anyone.
Don’t fool yourself with busy work which while using up time is not terribly productive. Ask yourself constantly “Am I being productive, or just keeping busy?”
Perhaps you’re trying to perfect something. Honestly nothing will ever be perfect. When I look back at the articles I have provided giving advice on different aspects of the MLM business I can see where I could have written something better or provided more examples or even an anecdote but the important thing is that I wrote the article. I can always come back to it and expand upon it later if I truly feel the need (or you as a reader request it). Perfectionism is just another form of procrastinating.
For the most part we tend to procrastinate out of fear. Fear of not doing something right or not knowing what to do or fear of failure, all of which can be boiled down to the fear of the unknown. Well I’ll suggest to you this… everything is unknown. Do you really know what is going to happen in the next second? How about the one after that? Or after that one? Everything truly is unknown yet you managed to survive those couple of seconds with nothing adverse happening to you so don’t let the unknown or the fear of it slow you down.
If any of this is hitting home with you then welcome to the club because I too was (and still am at times) a procrastinator. However instead of giving into the fear that might be holding me back I recognize it for what it is and change my mindset and recommitting to myself to change my behavior.
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” — Aristotle
So if you procrastinate… repeatedly… excellence or success is unlikely to follow.
Get into action and make a habit of not procrastinating.
